Review(s) - Sally Hansen Wax Strip Kit, Nair Sensitive Formula Bladeless Shaving Kit
July 21st, 2008
Okay, so I’m sick and tired of shaving…I don’t want to spend the money to get waxed in a salon, and I can’t afford the laser hair removal for my entire body…sooooo….what’s a girl to do? Well, what I did was drive to the Walmart Supercenter to explore my options.
Messy wax kits, which in my hands would be 100 times as messy, pre-waxed sheets that just need to be applied and ripped off, and creams, gels and mousses that remove hair. I decided to go with the Sally Hansen Wax Strip Kit, which was a few big pre-waxed strips, and a few smaller ones for armpits, etc for about $7. After I warmed the strips in between my hands, I pulled them apart and applied to my leg (which I had already swabbed with alcohol) and prepared myself for the screaming that would ensue after I pulled it off….no screaming occurred!
Woohoo, so it’s working pretty well, with the exception of a few missed hairs, and then it hits me: there is no way I’m going to have enough to wax all of my legs! LAME…..so I use up the remaining strips and I’m still left with mostly hairy legs, and half waxed underarms….back to the drawing board, or in my case, Walmart! This time I decide to try out the hair removal creams, but I’m scared because I’ve heard they can cause chemical burns and smell horrible. So I pick the one that seems the safest and least offending: Nair Sensitive Formula Bladeless Shaving Kit, again for about $7.
Because I’m still a lil scared to burn all the skin off of my legs, I do a little research online to see what other people had to say about this product…..bad idea. There are several thumbs up for this product, but waaaay more thumbs waaaay down….like, burn this product on the shelves and don’t even buy it, bad. I tried it anyway. I applied the cream to a small area on my upper thigh, trying to avoid the areas that I had unsuccessfully waxed. I left it on for the recommended 5 minutes, “shaved” it off with the plastic tool, and ta-da ! ……..I can’t tell if it’s done anything because I did such a small area, but the good news is, the skin hasn’t burned off! And it doesn’t even hurt at all.
So I switch to the other thigh and do a larger patch….same thing, only this time I can definitely notice smoother results. It missed a few, but I can always try again! To sum this experience up, the wax strips work pretty well, but there aren’t enough for a large product like all of your legs. The Nair that I used smelled really good (which was surprising since I used it in 6th grade and it smelled like someone getting a perm in a nail salon) and it didn’t burn the skin. I haven’t yet tried it on anywhere besides my legs, but I’ve got high hopes! If anything, I’ll just buy some more wax strips and use those solely for my armpits and bikini area! Good luck with your hair removing endeavors ![]()

Did you use the nair before waxing? If so, I would say it does not work at all…hair blowing in the wind ring a bell?

i will def give the strips a try at your suggestion, but as for nair…the way you get burned by it is:
as you said, it leaves a few stray hairs. it usually says something on the package to the effect of, ‘if your hair isn’t really coming off well, leave it on a bit longer.’ and there is a very fine line between just long enough and TOO long. i could never get the formula right. it would always either leave the hair in tact or burn me. and it was all gooey…yuck.
