Hello my friendly friends! I present you with a homework assignment: go to this website iloveschools.com and see what you can do to help out our country’s school children! If you have pencils, paper, folders or any other office supplies, a school can use them! If you have a few bucks to buy some rulers or protractors for a school, they can use that! This website is great because it can match you with actual teachers’ wishlists, so you can send things directly to the people who need them. Most of us never had a problem coming up with a sweet new backpack, new school clothes, and Lisa Frank erasers…but there are children who can’t even afford the basics like pencils and paper!! Please help out your neighbors!

Last week, I joined the ranks of World of Warcraft fiends, teenage boys, and overall comic book lovers for the midnight showing of The Dark Knight. I didn’t really have any expectations going into this film, but my sister and her friends assured me that it would be worth the missed sleep. Read »

Okay, so I’m sick and tired of shaving…I don’t want to spend the money to get waxed in a salon, and I can’t afford the laser hair removal for my entire body…sooooo….what’s a girl to do? Well, what I did was drive to the Walmart Supercenter to explore my options. Read »

Last week I had the pleasure of attending an acoustic performance by pro-surfer-turned-musician Timmy Curran at Quiet Flight in Cocoa Beach, FL. I’ll admit, I didn’t want to go at first because I was fairly certain it would consist of whining about “finding your perfect wave”….my boyfriend makes me watch waaay too many surf movies! But I was really pleased when he opened his mouth and not only sounded great, but was poetic as well. The entire set was just about 45 minutes but it was very relaxing and beautiful to listen to. If you like Jack Johnson, he doesn’t sound anything like him….but they have a somewhat similar style. You can check out his website for free downloads, and his album comes out July 22! www.timmycurran.com You can also check out where he’ll be next on his acoustic tour, he is playing at a few surf shops around the country.

This is by far the stupidest thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life…..and I have seen my dog try to bury a bone in imaginary dirt on my bed. If you are dumb enough to stick a laser in your eye, you deserve the resulting blindness and pirate eye patch that will no doubt follow step 4.
(Editor’s note: My favorite is the asterisk next to “painless procedure.”)

Translation: lately I have just seen one-too-many terrible movies. I do my duty as a film buff and see as many flicks as I possibly can at any given time, but I think it is safe to say that this summer has disappointed so far. Read »

It’s been a while, but here I am with some jewels of wisdom for you: my boyfriend recently started carrying around this metal water bottle because he’s a hippie and is trying to save the environment by not using plastic bottles and….whew, gotta take a breath…..then I realized how financially rewarding it would be to not purchase bottled water each and every friggn day…$2 for a bottle of water!!! COME ON! So I searched and searched and could not find one! Well guess what? His mom, who is a saint by the way, went and got me one from the same place she got his….Pottery Barn! I’ve never set foot in a Pottery Barn and you don’t have to either
They’re selling them online for $7 which is pretty sweet considering they’re usually $10. Anyway, I’ve been using mine for a few days, and I love it! Plastic bottles smell funny after a few days (even if you wash them…it’s nasty) but this one seems to be holding up pretty well so far. The Nalgene ones kinda gross me out too. So if you’re a hippie/cheapskate/germaphobe, go check it out…it comes in pretty colors

So I took a small hiatus from Average Chicks. Mostly, I was studying for finals and gearing up for my summer career, but simultaneously I was attempting to reconcile myself with the idea of writing about what interests “chicks.” Writing my first few articles for this site, I kept coming back to that scene in How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days where Kate Hudson thrills as her boss tells her she can write about anything. She grasps at the chance, assuring her employer she is eager to begin production on articles referencing politics, human rights, poverty, religion… No, her boss corrects her, “anything” means shoes, cosmetics, fashion, sex – it is a women’s magazine they’re writing for, after all. It was with this scene burned into my brain that I started writing for this website and attempted to integrate some semblance of girl power into the concept of writing about matrimony and McDreamy. I am not the ideal source to go to for all things chick – my closet has five times as many sneakers as pumps and I cannot remember the last time I put on make-up. Still, with all that being said, I would like to take this opportunity to write about my current obsession and quite possibly the girliest thing to ever make me squeal. Read »

I believe fully that a woman should have the right to different options when faced with a pregnancy. I don’t know if I could personally have an abortion, but I do know that it’s wrong for me to make the decision for someone else. That being said, this person is taking that right WAY TOO FREAKING FAR!
A Yale art student will be displaying an exhibit that includes photos and blood obtained from several miscarriages that she induced herself over a 9 month period. This is completely unethical and I can’t believe that this project was approved by her department. If you are having an abortion because you feel you need to, that is understandable, but to do it just for an art project?? That’s like saying, “Um hey, let’s throw a kitty in the blender and study the effects of kitty goo on the efficiency of the blender.” WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG (Sorry to all the adorable kitties for the example).

It is happening. Remember the Hello Kitty machine gun? WHAT DID I TELL YOU PEOPLE!!?? We must stop these children of the corn, and fast! It starts off as an innocent “Let’s handcuff our teacher and teach HER a lesson….with a knife…to the neck” and then before you know it, there are 8 year olds running the streets….with what you ask? WITH TERROR. That’s right. Their tiny eyes will be watching your every move….
